Dave's blog
Busy busy busy!
Well I've just spent a couple of hours jazzing-up the 'About Dawjee' page so I'm hoping that it'll be much easier for people to navigate around the site now... Before today we had a basic overview but nothing particularly detailed whereas now we have pretty much all the info you'll need t make full use of the site for your own website or marketing etc.
If you haven't already, go check it out:-
The DawJee Directory
Hi folks!
I just thought I'd drop in and let you know about a nice little plan Jon and I have for a Directory SOLELY for Webmaster Resources. We haven't ironed out the final stages just yet but do stay tuned. We look forward to bringing you yet another fantastic DawJee tool!
Done and Dusted...
In a bid to further optimise the site I've just spent a while cleaning up all our unused .css tags... The result?
BEFORE - 23.4KB
NOW - 4.71KB
Not a bad saving at all, even if I say so myself...
Special thanks to the awesome Dust Me Selectors which was absolutely perfect for finding all our bad tags!
Thousands went on holiday!
Well it's been a bit of a weird month for DawJee looking at our traffic... On 6th of may we were getting over 4000 hits per day... That then dropped to around 200 hits per day (thousands of users went on holiday?) and stayed like that up until 16th May at which point it then shot back up to 3.5k hits per day.
It's all rather random if you ask me... *blames Jon* ;)
Great news!
Morning everybody!
Well last night I had a text from Jon so I figured I'd share with everyone as I think it's a nice coupe of little achievements...
Achievement #1 - dawjee now has an official PageRank (PR) of 4/10! :)
Achievement #2 - Our adsense bannner has just broken the barrier to pay for our hosting which means we're no longer out of pocket for our little venture into providing a community tool! Hurrah!
Anyway I should be working so I bid you all a very fond farewell! (thanks Bilbo!)
Graphical optimisationalisms!
Along with the optimisations Jon's been working on I've made a few changes to the graphics and css for the site to make a whopping 329Kb saving PER PAGE LOAD. Hopefully this too will cut down on our resource usage, make the pages load a little faster for you guys and it's just generally good practice anyway.
Enjoy! :)
Talk about pedantic!
Well one of our users pointed out the fact that our page is no longer XHTML compliant... Having looked at the coding I noticed something REALLY pedantic... Errors were being thrown because part of our AddThis script contained capitals... i.e. 'onMouseOut' instead of 'onmouseout' :(
Fixed those errors but now we have some url formatting ones that I can't fix because they're contained in the server-side bookmark.php script AddThis plonks into the page code.
If anyone know different to this let me know and I'll make the changes! TTFN!
Bookmark and Share!
Well after a few discussions Jon and I decided that we think it'd be good for any of our regular users (thank you!) to add DawJee to their various types of bookmark, social networking profile or just share with other users.
That being the case we've removed our Digg icon from the header and replaced it with a sexy new menu courtesy of AddThis.
Have fun!
Slight design change.
Did a little re-jigging today as the new "Analyse" icon kept getting shoved off the right of the results tables on some search terms. Decided that the best bet was to have all the main stats across an entry and have the Title, Description and URL underneath it.
Hopefully this will be a bit clearer and more user-friendly now.
The PR (Page Rank) function seems to be a bit fussy for some reason and won't work on our host so it's been hosted on a lesser server but is still playing up a little. We'll be looking into a new PR function asap so bear with us!
Extra Extra, read all about it!
Today we've added a couple of extra little functions on the results pages (next to the 'General Metrics' title):-
* Google AdWords Traffic Estimator
* Google Trend History
* WordTracker Keyword Suggestion Tool
These should help out anyone looking into an AdWords campaign for a possible traffic stream by telling you the time of year a certain phrase is searched for most, the region it's searched in most, the average Cost Per Click you'd expect to pay for it and expected Clicks Per Day and even some suggested similar phrases you could look to target.
Enjoy! =D
